Disaster Recovery keeps your IT running when the worst happens.
At least, that’s the idea – but how do IT professionals feel? Happily, the overall trend is positive. There is more rigorous governance, planning and testing, all leading to greater confidence.
Do you have a specific IT DR plan within your BCP?
There’s still a high percentage of businesses with a specific DR plan i.e. having the correct governance, processes and tools in place.
After a minor drop in 2017, it’s good to see more businesses getting back on track with a DR plan in place.
How confident are you in your DR plan?
It’s great to see an uptake in confidence in DR plans. More testing and planning means more confidence.
What were the causes of data loss in the last 12 months?
Perhaps the most telling results are that hardware failure, human error and software failure are (cumulatively) the chief causes of data loss. These are all internal issues, suggesting improvements can be made through review and updating good practice guidelines.
It’s notable there has been a rise in internal security breaches – i.e. employees maliciously targeting their own company.

In total, how much downtime did your organisation experience in the last 12 months?
Over a quarter of businesses surveyed didn’t suffer downtime. For those who did, 4-8 hours was the most common time period which, while significant, is not likely to be a debilitating amount of time.
There has also been a notable drop in downtime of over 24 hours, which is positive.
